Detailed itinerary for 13 days Rwanda wildlife with chimpanzee and gorilla trekking safari
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to the Booked accommodation
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by your driver or tour guide who will transfer you to your booked accommodation. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel / Okapi Hotel. Meal plan: H/B
Day 2: Kigali City Tour expedition
After your breakfast, we will set out for a city tour in Kigali and have a visit to the landmarks of colonial post-independence, genocide and post-genocide times. After your lunch, you will transfer to Bugesera to visit the reconciliation village, Nyamata and Ntarama genocide churches. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: F/B
Day 3: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera National Park
After your delicious African breakfast, you will drive to Kirehe and visit Imigongo, here you will learn about the ancient artisan in the region. After you have had lunch, get a view of the beautiful waterfalls in Rusumo on the border of Tanzania and Rwanda. You will then drive to Akagera National Park. Upon your arrival, check in for Dinner and Overnight at Akagera Game Lodge. Meal plan: F/B
Day 4: Game Drive and Village Visit
Wake up to an early breakfast and set out for your game, you may get to encounter various wildlife and birds. After departing to the northern part of the park and visiting the pastoralist heritage experience. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: F/B
Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Boat Ride on Lake Ihema
After our breakfast, you will have another Game drive to search for more wildlife that was missed on the previous drive. Return to the lodge for lunch and after you will take a stunning boat ride on Lake Ihema to spot aquatic wildlife like crocodiles, hippos and over 50 species of water birds like pelicans, and sunbirds among others. Day 6: Game drive in Akagera Park and visit Twin Lakes
You will transfer to Ruhengeri for ethnobotany tours after your breakfast. You will later have your lunch before visiting the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Enjoy some time with the local community and get involved in local project initiatives like brick making and harvesting honey. Dinner and overnight at your lodge of choice in Ruhengeri town. Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Tracking Volcanoes
After your early morning breakfast, you will attend a short briefing before setting out into the forest for an adventurous Gorilla Tracking experience. Make sure to have your packed lunch and plenty of water. Visit Buhanga forest for Kinigi Cultural Village. Dinner and overnight at Le bamboo gorilla lodge / Kinigi guest house. Meal plan: F/B
Day 8: Community Excursion – Lake Kivu
Head to the Banana and Sorghum beer production sites after breakfast, learn how African beer is brewed and even get to taste it. You will then transfer to the shores of Lake Kivu to relax. Retire for Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Hotel. Meal plan: F/B
Day 9: Travel to Gisenyi then Goma town
After your breakfast, you will head on to tour Gisenyi town. Have your lunch and after a visit to Goma town in Congo, you will transfer by boat to Kibuye with an en-route visit to Amahoro Island. Dinner and Overnight at your lodge in Kibuye town. Meal plan: F / B
Day 10: Kibuye – Nyungwe Forest
After breakfast, transfer by boat to Cyangugu – Kamembe town and get some time of relaxation at the lakeside. Dinner and Overnight at Nyungwe forest lodge / Gisakura guest house. Meal plan: F/B
Day 11: Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy walk Experience
You will head out to the park headquarters after your breakfast for a briefing about the Chimpanzee and what to expect while tracking as well as what is expected of you. You will then go into the forest to begin your tracking. Colobus, vervet monkeys in Nyungwe Forest National Park. Lunch and after taking canopy walk trail to experience other primates, birds and scenic view of canopies. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: F/B
Day 12: Nature Walk to Waterfalls
Be sure to have your breakfast before heading out to the Kamiranzovu swamps to view other primate species like the black and white colobus monkeys. Dinner and overnight. Meal plan: F/B
Day 13: Transfer from Nyungwe to Kigali City
After breakfast, you will visit the National Museum and discover the pre-colonial architecture as well as the history of Rwanda and enjoy traditional dancers from the museum or the National University. History-minded exploration of Nyanza, visit the King’s palace and traditional home where you will cook and share lunch with the family.
