5-days Uganda Primates trekking tour focuses on tracking or trekking two great Primates, that is, Chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. These two forests are remarkable for their diversity of flora and fauna and breathtaking sceneries.

The Primate tracking or trekking safari usually begins from Kampala or Entebbe depending on where the client spent the night or resides after arrival into the country. Detailed Itinerary for 5-days Uganda Primate Trekking Tour

Day 1: Travel from Kampala to Kibale National Park

As per the briefing the day before, you are picked up from the hotel/place of residence at exactly 6:30 am after breakfast, so as to avoid the early morning traffic jam in the city. The trip starts, travelling westwards through the district of Mityana, then Mubende, and stopover for lunch while viewing the local livelihoods of the communities in the central region of Uganda.

Then proceed through the districts of Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa, viewing the magnificent greenery and the rolling hills and finally Fort portal Town which connects to Kibale Forest National Game Reserve which is part of the Kibale Forest. You arrive in Kibale at around 5:00 pm for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking Kibale forest National Park

Wake up very early in the morning, at 6:00 am for breakfast and then proceed to the first primates tracking briefing point, to be briefed about the safety guidelines and be allocated a guide. Setting off is at exactly 8:00 am, the guide makes sure everyone has packed lunch, enough drinking water, comfortable safety shoes, and a porter for the backpack and a walking stick before the take-off. After Chimpanzee tracking return to the lodge and have a relaxed evening / a community/wetland walk near the forest, dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: Transfer from Kibale Forest National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Have breakfast and thereafter proceed to Bwindi for the Gorilla tracking experience. Stop over at the Uganda equator in Kikilongo near the route to DRC CONGO and then the second stop over at Savannah Resort situated in the southern region of Queen Elizabeth National Park for lunch, this area of Queen Elizabeth National Park is popular for harboring the famous Tree-climbing Lions, you may be lucky and spot them as you drive along.

Lots of other big games including Elephants, Buffaloes and Topis are possible sightings in Ishasha. Proceed to Rukungiri district and connect to Buhoma in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, expect to arrive at around 5:00 pm for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Wake up very early in the morning, at about 6:00 am for breakfast and then proceed to the Gorilla tracking briefing point, to be briefed about the safety guidelines and be allocated guides and groups for tracking. Setting off is at exactly 8:00 am, the guide makes sure everyone has packed lunch, enough drinking water, comfortable safe shoes and a porter for the backpack and a walking stick before the take-off.

Gorilla tracking is one of the most unique and thrilling wildlife adventures you will have experienced, observing and photographing these gentle giants (mountain gorillas). After the tracking, return to the lodge and have a relaxed evening / a walk to the pygmy families near the forest, dinner and overnight at the lodge. Alternatively, after Gorilla tracking you could transfer to Lake Bunyonyi, a 2 hours’ drive from Bwindi.

Dotted with a series of lush islands. Bunyonyi is Africa’s second deepest lake that is also free from Bilharzia. Canoe on the lake and explore the various islands whilst enjoying wonderful views of the Kigezi terraces and cool atmosphere. The lake offers excellent relaxation, especially after the strenuous Gorilla experience.

Day 5: Travel back from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park to Kampala

Then a second stop over at the Uganda Equator for some photos, souvenirs and leg stretching and finally proceed to the final leg of the trip / drop off at the airport for the return flight back home.
