Detailed itinerary for 7-days Mount Elgon Hiking Circle
Day 1: Travel from Entebbe / Kampala to Mbale
Have an early breakfast and prepare for pickup from your hotel at 7:00 am, travel to eastern Uganda stopping over in Jinja for lunch and exploring the Source of the Nile, take a boat ride to the spot marked as the source of the river Nile, the longest river in the Nile. Enjoy the beautiful scenery across the Nile and Lake Victoria. Have lunch in Jinja town and thereafter drive out and proceed further east to Mbale. Enjoy wonderful views of the rugged foothills of Mountain Elgon. Transfer to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Kapkway – Tutum Camp (2667 m)
After you have had your breakfast and checked out as well, you will drive via Sipi to the Kapkway Exploration Center where UWA headquarters are found. You will then have your guide and porters ready with food and camping gear for your hiking experience. You will start walking up to Tutum Cave Camp (2667 m) through Montane and the bamboo forest. The Tutum cave is magnificent as it is hidden within the forest. You will later set camp for your overnight with dinner as well. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: Tutum Camp – Kajeri Camp (3383 m)
Today you will be hiking towards Kajeri Camp (3383 m) from your overnight camping station. So, you will wake up, have breakfast and set off for the day’s hike with a distance of the day to be covered as 17 km. Set camp for your overnight and dinner included. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 4: Kajeri Camp – Mude Camp (3,500 m)
after breakfast walk slowly down after Muyembe camp towards Mude cave Camp (3,500 m) to where you join the Sasa Trail. The walk will take all day as, by the time you get to the destination, you would have had a stopover for lunch and arrived at your camping site for an overnight with dinner. The distance you will be covering for the day is 25 km. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 5: Mude Camp to Wagagai Peak (4321 m)
Today you will be heading up to Wagagai Peak after breakfast and organizing your camp material. You will be walking through the moorland zone upwards to the peak where you will be having your lunch and returning to the Mude campsite. The journey will take all day as you will be returning for your dinner and overnight. The distance to be covered today will be 18 km. Meal plan: Breakfast Lunch and Dinner
Day 6: Mude Camp descend to Budadiri
The trekking ends with descending to Budadiri, the gate of the National Park nearby Mbale. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 7: Reserved for departure.
