3 days Akagera and wildlife safari adventure will take you to Akagera National Park, which is located in Eastern Rwanda, covering 1,200 kilometers2, along the international border with Tanzania. The Park was founded in 1934 by the Belgian government to protect animals and vegetation in three eco-regions: Savannah, mountain, and swamp.
Was named after the Kagera River, also the Akagera River, which flows along its eastern boundary, feeding into Lake Ihema and several smaller lakes. Akagera is a big game country with herds of African elephants and Cape Buffaloes that emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes. Lucky visitors can stumble across leopards, spotted hyenas, stray lions, giraffes, and zebras.
