Chimpanzee tracking Bugoma Forest
Chimpanzee tracking Bugoma; this is a Central Forest Reserve with approximately a total of 500 chimpanzees (10% of the total chimpanzee population in Uganda). call the forest a home and on record over 221 different bird species, making it a popular location for birdwatchers, covering an area of 41,144 hectares of land, gazetted in 1932 and later in 2003 was declared under the protection of the National Forestry Authority.
In Western Uganda, this tropical rainforest is overseen by the National Forestry Authority and is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Albert in Hoima District, the northeastern side of Kyenjojo Town, and the southwest side of Hoima District. It was formally opened for chimpanzee trekking on August 15, 2024. Each chimpanzee tracking permit costs USD 80 per person.
There are other primates, though, such as golden and side-striped jackals, reptiles, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, and Uganda Mangabey monkeys. It’s also on rare occasions that you might spot a few Uganda Kobs, Cape buffaloes, and bush elephants.
Session for Chimpanzee Tracking Bugoma Forest Reserve
Chimp trekking in Bugoma Forest is scheduled into two sessions by the National Forest Authority, which are 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., respectively. Aside from chimpanzee trekking, other activities carried out at the Mwera ecotourism site include birdwatching, guided nature walks, Mangabey trekking, and chimpanzee habituation experience.
