Gishwati Mukura National Park

Gishwati Mukura National Park is Rwanda’s newest national park, following Volcanoes, Nyungwe Forest, and Akagera National Park, which is located in the biodiversity of albertine Rift valley in the western part of the country and in the size it covers a total of 34 square kilometers. The National Park into two magnificent rainforests that is Gishwati being the largest the largest and Mukura Forest as the smallest. There are about 60 different tree species with bamboo sticks. Gishwati is a home to 20 chimpanzees and other primates includes Golden monkey, L’hoest monkey, vervet monkey, black and white colobus monkey, and baboon.

In addition, mammals include hyrax, mongoose among others. In Record, Gishwati has a total of 232 bird species and Mukura forest 163, which totals up to 395, and this includes mountain yellow warblers, Rwenzori turacos, purple-breasted sunbird, and strange weavers. Officially the park was opened to public in 2019, and several activities are carried out which includes; guided nature walks, guided chimpanzee trekking experience, guided bird watching adventure, and waterfalls visit.

However there are other community based activities which includes; farm stay adventure, live cultural experience and dances, beekeeping practice, tea plantation tour and adventure, practical sessions from Rwandans’ traditional healers who often use the local herbs extracted from plant trees.

Hiking within the FOrest Park

Hiking through Gishwati forest is a memorable adventure experience as the jungle is encompassed with hills, cool climate of the surrounding that is really cozy situated in the areas of high rainfalls. Inconcluson therefore, Gishwati Forest is Rwandas’ best example of ecotourism destination because of its unique diverse flora and fauna.
