Kayaking River Nile in Jinja

Kayaking is an active water-based activity that differs from canoeing in that kayaks need sitting and have a double paddle blade rather than one. It’s the most popular pastime on the Mighty Nile in Jinja. It was formally recognized as an outdoor international water sport during the Olympics.

Professional and experienced kayak instructors take all participants through a series of training sessions where they coach and guide them on how to paddle strokes in conjunction with rescue tactics. Kayaking on the deep and warm River Nile reduces the chance of rock strikes.

Categories of Kayaking on river Nile

Kalagala kayaking is the most popular type of kayak because it is done on the calm waters of the Nile. Most participants can participate as long as they can paddle with the local guides, which typically takes two hours. The guiding is done while sitting on top of the kayak or standing up.

Tandem kayaking: an extreme sport that is limited to a few rivers. It requires advanced strokes because of the large waves and hydraulics that are encountered. For safety reasons, it is advised that experienced instructors paddle alongside.

Whitewater kayaking: the most exciting and difficult type of kayaking since it combines tandem and Kalagala. It is only done by qualified coaches and guides, and everyone who participates in it looks happy when they finish. Starting with calm flatwater kayak, you progress to large waves and hydraulic paddling, but you still need to paddle with a consistent stroke to balance the kayak.
