Lake Kivu Experience Rwanda
One of Rwanda’s great freshwater lakes in the African Great Lakes, Lake Kivu, is located in the western region of the country, sandwiched between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Ruzizi River, which eventually empties into Lake Tanganyika, is where the lake currently releases its waters. With a surface area of 2,700 km2, this is one of the most stunning lakes in central Africa. Its length and width are 42 km by 50 km.
Lake Kivu surrounds Idjwi, also known as Ijwi, an inland island with lush rolling hills and a few towns. It is the tenth largest island in the world. These include Giseny, Kibuye, and Cyangugu in Rwanda, and Lake Bukavu, Kabare, Kalehe, Sake, and Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Activities on lake Kivu
Sunbathing on the beach, swimming, and water sports like kayaking, wind surfing, canoeing along the Mukungwa River, and boat cruises are just a few of the many activities that have been formed because of the stunning scenery and islands that make up the lake.
